August – September 2010 – Ucluelet Fish Report

The fishing and weather have been incredible. Lots of chinook salmon everyday from high teen to 40 plus pounds. Most of these fraser river chinook are averaging 20 to 29 lbs with a few in the 30s and 40 pound range.

It had also been a bumper year for sockeye, with each boat averaging 1 to 8 sockeye a day. There are also coho showing up and there numbers should increase even more as we get into late august and september.

The good salmon fishing has been out on the S.W. Corner, Hyson Bank, South Bank and The Wreck. Large plugs and spoons, hootchies and spoons behind flashers have all worked well. There has been lots of large pilchards(sardines) around and this is what the large chinook have been feeding on primarily.

Halibut fishing has been very good at the usually spots such as The Wreck, Long Beach, and Big Bank. The better quality Halis have come from the Long Beach spot with Halis from 20 to 100 lbs in size.

Fishing for Salmon and Halibut, Ling Cod and Rockfish will continue strong into the September, so if you are interested in a fishing trip please don’t hesistate to call at 1-877-333-8221 toll free.

Tight lines,
