Ucluelet borders Barkley Sound and Longbeach and is located along the edge of the westcoast of Vancouver Island, B.C. Canada. The town is surrounded by a temperate rainforest and is situated along a sheltered harbour. Ucluelet, a word used by the Nuu-Chah-Nulth people meaning “safe harbour” has a population of approximately 2000 residents. Longbeach or Pacific Rim National Park along with the town of Tofino are just a short distance north from Ucluelet. There are several different modes of transportation one can use in getting to Ucluelet.
By Car from Victoria to Ucluelet:
Guest driving to Ucluelet can select one of several ferry routes to Vancouver Island(see map). Follow the Island highway #1 north just past Parksville and then take the Port Alberni Hwy 4 exit and continue on to Port Alberni and finally Ucluelet. Driving time from Nanaimo to Ucluelet is approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes, Victoria to Ucluelet 4 hours, and Vancouver approx. 6 hours (ferry included).
By Ferry to Ucluelet:
Ferries run from Tsawwassen (South of Vancouver) to Duke Point (Nanaimo) and from Horseshoe Bay (North Vancouver) to Nanaimo. Ferry crossings average 1 hour and 45 minutes. There are many options when it comes to flying. The most economic form of flying is by wheeled aircraft into Long Beach Airport. The airport is approximately 15 minutes from Ucluelet in which case a shuttle bus can be used to bring you into town.
